Aztec Shield Pendant
Handmade Yanhuitlán Shield Pendant
• Material: .925 Sterling Silver, 24K Gold and Natural Turquoise Stone.
The Yanhuitlán Shield, also known as the Chīmalli of Yanhuitlán, is a historical artifact from the Mixtec region of Oaxaca, crafted during the Postclassic period of Mesoamerica. Made from woven fibers, feathers, and adorned with gold and turquoise, this shield exemplified both the artistry and the martial prowess of the Mixtec people. Shields like this were not only tools of defense but also symbols of status and divine protection, often associated with the sun god Tonatiuh and warrior deities. This pendant captures the legacy of courage and craftsmanship embodied by the ancient warriors who bore the Yanhuitlán Shield.
