Inspired by the Vision Serpent, a central figure in Mayan Mythology and ritual practices, symbolizing the gateway between the physical world and the spiritual realm. Mayan elites performed bloodletting ceremonies where they would invoke the Vision Serpent to communicate with their ancestors and gods. The snake, emerging from these rituals, was depicted in Mayan art as a conduit for this communication, often shown with the figure of an ancestor or god emerging from its mouth.
