Diese Ohrringe sind von einem der am meisten geschätzten spirituellen Ereignisse Mexikos inspiriert: der Erscheinung Unserer Lieben Frau von Guadalupe vor dem indigenen Mann Juan Diego auf dem Tepeyac-Hügel im Jahr 1531.
Als Juan Diego um Beweise gebeten wurde, sammelte er kastilische Rosen. Blumen, die weder in Mexiko heimisch noch in der Saison sind. Als er seinen Mantel vor dem Bischof öffnete, fielen nicht nur die Rosen zu Boden, sondern auf wundersame Weise erschien auch ein Bild der Jungfrau Maria auf dem Stoff. Dieser Moment besiegelte die Rose als heiliges Symbol in der mexikanischen Tradition.
